Michael Hughes, an assistant coach at Brown for the last year, will maintain continuity for the golf program and has been named interim head men's golf coach for the Bears. Hughes will take over a Brown team that finished in second place at the Ivy League Championship a year ago. He joined the team last spring as an assistant coach, accompanying the team to its spring trip and several tournaments, including the Ivy League Championship in Galloway, New Jersey. Hughes brings a myriad of teaching and coaching experience to Brown. He has worked as an assistant professional at Metacomet Country Club and Agawam Hunt in East Providence, and as a Teaching Professional at Longboat Key Club and PGA National; both in Florida. As Director of Instruction at the Ken Venturi Golf Training Center in Chicago, Mike was an Assistant Men's Golf Coach at DePaul University. Returning home to Rhode Island in 2000, Mike is currently the Director of Golf Operations at Mulligan's Island in Cranston, practice home of the Brown Men's and Women's Golf Team. Hughes is a graduate of St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, where he was a four-year letterwinner in golf. A Rhode Island native, Hughes grew up close to Brown's campus in East Providence. |
