Judah Rome, a 1999 graduate of Wesleyan University, recently joined the Brown men's crew staff as an assistant coach to Paul Cooke.

While pursuing a major in History and African-American Studies, Rome was a four-year member of the Wesleyan Crew team. He won the lightweight Most Valuable Player award in 1998, as well as a silver medal at the New England Championships in 1999.

Rome competed with the United States National Rowing Team and won a bronze medal at the 2003 Pan-Am games in the Domincan Republic. In 2001, he was a Royal Canadian Henley Champion in the lightweight men's doubles, and also won three gold medals at the 2001 USRowing National Championships.

Rome began his coaching career at Lake Lanier Rowing Club in Gainesville, Ga., where he was the head coach of a junior team, and served as an assistant for the adult team. He also spent time coaching a competitive adult program at the Gentle Giant Rowing Club in Malden, Mass., and was the crew coach at Somerville High School.
