Hebron, CT - For the first time in seven shows, the Brown equestrian team finished lower than first, coming in fourth on Saturday in the first of two shows at Windcrest Farm, this one hosted by Central Connecticut State. Two Brown point riders, freshman Allegra Aron (Burlingame, CA) and junior Kiauntee Murray (Jersey City, NJ), won blue ribbons in their events, as the Bears were able to keep their lead over Connecticut for first place in Region 1 at 27 points. The day got off to a slow start, as Brown got just seven points from the three fences events. Senior Whitney Keefe (Wellesley, MA) in Open and sophomore Rachel Griffith (Merrimack, NH) in Novice both pinned fourth, and freshman Dakota Gruener (Berkeley, CA) failed to pin in Intermediate. The Bears made up some ground in the flat classes. Aron won her class of Intermediate Flat, and Murray won in Walk Trot, pointing up to Walk Trot Canter. Keefe took second in Open Flat and Lucia Corso (New Haven, CT) took third in Beginner Walk Trot Canter. Gruener also did not pin in Novice Flat. For the day, Wesleyan took first with 33 points at their home barn. UConn picked up three points on the Bears, finishing with 32, while Roger Williams was one point ahead of Brown with 30. For Brown's non-point competitors, junior Cody Auer (Fairfield, CT) had a solid performance in her first show of the season after recovering from an offseason injury. She pinned third in Open Fences and won her class of Open Flat. Senior Stephanie Syc (Lake Forest, IL) pinned second in her first Fences class. In her collegiate debut, sophomore Jill Griffith (Chatham, MA) pinned 2nd in Walk Trot. The Bears also got three blue ribbons from Walk Trot Canter riders - freshman Kathryn Eng (New York, NY), senior Joyce Kwok (Hong Kong, China), and senior Stephanie Carmack (Pawcatuck, CT). Next weekend, Brown will finish its fall schedule with another show at Windcrest, this one hosted by Wesleyan.
